Your Top 10 things to see and do in New Zealand

Kia ora,

Submit your top ten things to see and do, any activities, sport, adventure, attractions or interesting places to visit in New Zealand (by your experience) to help other travellers choose what to see and do first they come to New Zealand.

Here's the top 10 by myself:

1. Sky Tower in Auckland - Eat, drink, views, jump down or Sky Walk
2. Rent a motorcycle and take it around The Coromandel and its small coastal towns.
3. Kayaking on Lake Taupo
4. Climb on Mount Taranaki
5. Spend a weekend in Wellington (Art, Cafe, Theatre, shopping, culture, festivals)
6. Kaikoura and the seafood (East Coast of South Island
7. Adventure in Queenstown
8. Unwind on West Coast, South Island
9. Kayaking on Lake Tekapo or Lake Wakatipu, South Island
10. Tramping and hiking in South Island

That is almost a perfect list :-)

I would add:

11) Go surfing at Piha Beach
12) Bridge Climbing on Auckland Harbour Bridge

I would add Skydiving to that list but I am not sure where the best opportunity is to do that.

Thank you, I would say that Queenstown and Kaikoura are the best for this, undoubtedly

For me a boat trip (preferably with a yacht) in the Hauraki Gulf and a visit to Tiritiri Matangi Island has to be on the list.
Tiritiri is a native bird sanctuary and besides kiwis, you can see some of the world's rarest birds, the Takahe. There are only ~150 birds alive, >10 of them there. They grow about 60cm high, can't fly, and look like a parrot crossed with a chicken :-)

Will be there again soon and hope to see some newly hegded chicks.
